World 9 Hole Golf Championship in aid of Polio Plus

MKGU Rc held their annual 9 hole golf championship at Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands GC of August 23rd.Proceeds going to Rotary International charity for eradicating Polio from the world.
Report by Fred Mercer.
Brilliant Sunshine-Brilliant Golf (for some!)-Brilliant Result

It was one of the hottest days of the year, so it was just as well the Annual 9 Hole Rotary Polio Charity Golf Day was held in the evening. The sunshine certainly brought out good scoring and only a few of us were relegated to be 'also rans'.
A serial fundraiser, Alroy Pickersgill, was a popular winner of the 'nearest the pin' prize. DSC7084aThe secondary competition was won by Tony Widmer, Shaun Jackson and John Bussey, but the main competition for the Hi Pro Trophy and bountiful bottles of wine went to 'The Three Amigos', aka Mick Hull, David Hawkins and Chris Knight with a breathtaking score of 47. Considering each player could only use 3 clubs and a putter perhaps they need to think whether they ever need anymore!
As well as golf, the evening was about fundraising for our Charity. Our President, Susan Jackson, updated us all about the progress in the fight against Polio worldwide and the audience was suitably impressed with the huge scale of operations that all such events were helping fund.
Inspired by the update and with eye catching and diverse raffle prizes on offer such as:- afternoon tea for two at an award winning restaurant; a superb acrylic painting of a Spanish beauty by local artist (and Rotarian) Jim Donovan; and the brightest pink golf bag you could imagine - it encouraged everyone to dig deep and the response was not disappointing.
Through the kindness and generosity of all the golfers, guests and fellow Rotarians the amazing sum of £1100 will be passed on to the End Polio Now Charity fund.
