Milton Keynes Rotary Clubs School's Technology Tournament 2005

On Tuesday March 8th 2005 nineteen teams of children aged form 14 to 18 applied their skills and knowledge to the Milton Keynes Rotary Clubs School's Technology Tournament. There were three categories from basic through intermediate to advanced and the teams had to develop a weight powered vehicle to travel along a 1.5m long test track.

The teams were given a basic set of materials and instructions and the rest was up to their own skills and imagination. Points where given for evidence of planning and design, the realisation of the design as well as the final test. Bonus points were awarded if the vehicle could also raise a flag to celebrate the 100 years of Rotary.

Andrew Faraday, the Chief Steward said, "This is the sixth year we have run this event and the schools all achieve a high standard. Competition is fierce." Marshall Amplification and Abbey sponsor the event, held at the Open University for the last four years. "Without their support we could not continue with the event and the schools all now expect it each year" said Andrew.

In attendance at the event was the Rotary District Governor Janet Peirce and the Deputy Mayor Philip Gerrella. The winning schools were Ousedale in the Basic category and Shenley Brook End in the Intermediate and Advanced categories. Next year's event is to be held at the Open University in March.
